Captain: Forrest can fire us up the Premiership table

By: Newsroom Staff on 11 Oct, 2018 12:01

  • WHILE Scott Brown would always prefer to be out on the pitch alongside his Celtic team-mates, he was still able to enjoy their sparkling performance against St Johnstone from his vantage point in the main stand at McDiarmid Park.

In particular, he could appreciate James Forrest’s four-goal exploits, though having trained and played alongside the winger throughout the latter’s Celtic career, the Hoop captain is well aware of the quality Forrest possesses.

“That result was exceptional,” said Brown, “and Jamesy was outrageous with four goals in 30 minutes. He was brilliant last year for Celtic and Scotland and he’s started off well again. Hopefully he’ll get his chance with Scotland as well as Celtic.

“It’s not just his goals, it’s his link-up play as well, and the way he did so with Tom Rogic was brilliant. The two are great mates off the field and great mates on it as well. They’re always looking for each other and create chances.

“Jamesy been on fire, and whether that’s at training or games, and he’s the one we always look for to create something. He’s an old fashioned winger, he gets his head down and looks to beat people, but he always does the defending as well.”

The Celtic skipper is hoping to be back in action when the Hoops play host to Hibernian on October 20, aiming to help the team maintain their winning run in the Premiership after a few disappointing results.

“We’ve had two great seasons with no downs whatsoever,” he explained. “There’s always going to a little slump. That’s happened, so now we need to focus on winning games and getting back to our best.”
