Manager: It's been a good World Cup tournament

By: Tony Connelly on 11 Jul, 2018 17:01

  • THE past month has been a busy one for the Celtic players, having returned from their well-earned summer break.

The Bhoys hit the ground running in pre-season training and now have a handful of friendly games under their belt - four in Austria, one in Dublin and another at Paradise this coming weekend – as well as the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifier against Alashkert.

In the downtime between training, traveling, playing games and all the other duties which dominate the day-to-day life of a manager, Brendan Rodgers has been watching the World Cup., with France set to find out tonight who they will face in the final when England and Croatia meet in the second semi-final.

One of the dominant talking points of the tournament has been the introduction of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) and the Celtic manager has seen enough of the new technology to have an opinion.

“I’ve really enjoyed the World Cup so far,” Brendan Rodgers told the Celtic View. “From a football perspective, it’s always interesting to watch the different tactics, systems and styles of all the teams. That’s been very good and we’ve enjoyed that.

“Obviously VAR was a topic coming into the World Cup but I think it’s worked very well. Most decisions have been correct and done quickly. It hasn’t really disrupted the game.

“I think now you see players even calling for it in the game which is interesting. I’ve really enjoyed it. A lot of the games have been really good, really exciting and now we’re in the business end of the tournament.”
