Celtic View Exclusive: Scott Brown on the Hoops' Euro campaign

By: Mark Henderson on 11 Jul, 2018 13:31

  • AFTER three testing friendlies in Austria and Saturday’s match in Dublin against Shamrock Rovers, Celtic resumed competitive action on Tuesday night against Armenian outfit, Alashkert, in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round.

For the first time, and despite reaching the group stages for the past two seasons, the Hoops will have to negotiate four qualifying rounds to reach the riches of the group phase.

An almighty task has just got harder but Scott Brown and his colleagues will do everything in their power to take the club back to where it belongs. And having recorded an impressive 3-0 first leg result in Armenia, the Hoops will be confident of completing the job on Wednesday night and progressing to the next qualifying round.

Speaking exclusively to this week’s Celtic View, the Celtic captain said: “We’ve done in the last two years and the club deserves to be in the Champions League, but we need to work hard and make sure we’re ready for the games. The manager has done everything in his ability to get us ready and we need to make sure we do our talking on the park.

“Pre-season is all about us getting fit and ready for the Champions League qualifiers and also about the manager seeing everyone as a couple of players have come back from being on loan as well.

“Every single position is up for grabs. Last season is gone and it means nothing now, and it’s about how we start this season. Our main is getting to the Champions League to start with and then the league will hopefully take care of itself if we play as well as we’ve done for the past couple of seasons.

“Cup games can always be hard, going away from home, but for us, it’s just about looking to try and get into the Champions League. We’ve done it in the last two years and we need to make sure we’re focused to do it again.”
