Foundation Badge Day honours the memory of Tommy Burns

By: Newsroom Staff on 13 Jun, 2018 11:31

  • CELTIC FC Foundation are delighted to announce that more than £22,000 after costs has been raised, and a donation of £11,077 has been made to the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust, following a hugely successful Foundation Badge Day last month. The same amount will be used by Celtic FC Foundation for future project delivery, following the most successful Badge Day event yet.

Ahead of Celtic’s final league match of the season against Aberdeen, on May 13, over 100 Celtic FC Foundation and Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust volunteers were situated around the ground to sell our latest pin badge.

It was designed in honour of one of the Club’s most loved and cherished figures, Tommy Burns, and marked the tenth anniversary of his sad passing on May 15, 2008.

The badges, which were sold for a minimum donation of £2 each, are shaped in the number 10, which was famously worn by Tommy, and feature the logos of both Celtic FC Foundation and the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust.

Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, Tony Hamilton spoke of the success, saying: “The outcome of this year’s Badge Day has been absolutely incredible. Yet again the Celtic fans got behind us in huge numbers and I must thank them for their continued support.

“It has been a privilege to work with the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust and the success of the event has been the perfect tribute to the legend that is Tommy Burns.”

Tommy’s daughter, Jenna Burns, who is a Trustee of The Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust, said: “I would like to thank Celtic FC Foundation for allowing us to be part of Badge Day 2018 and to benefit from the unbelievable generosity of the Celtic support. The tenth anniversary of my dad's death was particularly difficult but I took great comfort in the support shown by the Foundation, the supporters and the Club.

“We set up the charity, not only to keep my dad's memory alive but also to raise awareness and to aid the research that is carried out. Here we are 10 years later and we are still managing to do that; something that we would not be able to do without the incredible support we have received and for that we are truly grateful!”

If you are interested in purchasing Celtic FC Foundation’s latest badge, priced at £2 each, there are still a limited amount available via eBay HERE
