Foundation’s ‘Lions Lunch Breaks’ aid Alzheimer Scotland

By: Newsroom Staff on 16 Apr, 2018 15:34

  • CELTIC FC Foundation is delighted to announce the launch of our second #LionsLegacy dementia care projects - as we partner with dementia care experts, Alzheimer Scotland.

This initiative marks the latest #LionsLegacy project, following a range of fundraising events across six wonderful days in May, 2017, honouring the 50th anniversary of Celtic’s 1967 European Cup victory.

Following Celtic FC Foundation’s link up with Edinburgh-based charity, the Eric Liddell Centre, earlier this year, this week’s announcement represents another step to providing accessible, holistic provision for those living with dementia.

‘Lions Lunch Breaks’ will work with individuals living with dementia as well as their carers. This will operate a simple, friendly and inclusive approach, prioritising responsive and engaging activities for both carers, and people living with early to mid-stages of dementia.

Working alongside Celtic FC Foundation, Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s leading dementia organisation, providing care, activities, support, information and advice to those in need, as well as their carers and families. The charity also aims to improve public policies relating to dementia and be a voice for the 90,000 people in Scotland currently living with the condition.

Celtic FC Foundation and Alzheimer Scotland will also embark on a joint venture to establish a network of trained befriending volunteers who will provide regular contact for people living with dementia.

Sarah Burgess, Alzheimer Scotland Head of Operations, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to work with Celtic FC Foundation to bring the ‘Lions Lunch Breaks’ to people living around our local Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Resource Centre.

“The first session went extremely well with enjoyment and laughter all around. Without such excellent partnership working we couldn’t continue to make such a difference to the lives of people with dementia, their families and carers.”

Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, added: “It’s great to get this off the ground. The people at Alzheimer Scotland are the leading experts on care and it’s an honour for us to be working alongside them.

“Dementia affects many families and our function is to help alleviate that both for people living with the condition and their carers, and we’re very grateful that the Celtic support, through the #LionsLegacy campaign, have facilitated that.”
