    CELTIC...3
    (Aitchison 57, Diver 75, McInroy 86)

THREE second-half goals saw Celtic clinch a deserved Glasgow derby victory over Patrick Thistle in the Development League last night.

The young Hoops had controlled the opening 45 minutes without reward but they made their dominance count after the interval.

Jack Aitchison fired in the opener in the 57th minute after Broque Watson’s shot had been blocked, and Watson was the provider for number two, with substitute Ciarian Diver converting his cross.

Kerr McInroy completed the scoring with four minutes left on the clock to seal the spoils for Tommy McIntyre’s side and give them a boost ahead of Thursday’s rescheduled Youth Cup semi-final clash with Hibernian.

There were five changes from the team that drew with the Easter Road side in the league last week. In came Ross Doohan, Wallace Duffy, Lewis Bell, Watson and Aitchison, while Ryan Mullen, PJ Crossan, Thomas Caffrey, Grant Savoury and Max Potter dropped out.

The Bhoys made a bright start, bossing possession and McInroy and Aitchison both had shots blocked in the opening 20 minutes

Defender Stephen Welsh was next to try his luck but he couldn’t keep his attempt down from 20 yards after a clearance from a free-kick had dropped into his path.

The away side’s persistence almost paid off two minutes before half-time when Henderson embarked on a purposeful run and played in the hardworking Aitchison, whose shot was parried by goalkeeper Jamie Stevenson.

From the resultant corner, Steveson again denied the Celts when he got down to stop Duffy’s header at the far post.

James Penrice volleyed over for the Jags at the start of the second half following the hosts’ first corner of the match. But, after that, the Celts reasserted their control of the contest.

Henderson was unfortunate to see his fine 25-yard effort cannon off the post, before Aitchison fired narrowly wide after a melee in the Thistle box.

And moments after Aitchison had put an acrobatic attempt over, their pressure bore fruit. Watson did well to thrust into the box and fashion space for a shot. His drive was blocked but Aitchison was on hand to bury the rebound.

The young Hoops continued to make all the running, with substitute Kieran Campbell coming close to converting Daniel Church’s inviting centre and the lively Watson trying his luck with a couple of attempts.

And it was Watson who did the damage as the Celts doubled their advantage. Driving into the box from the byline, the winger picked out Diver, who confidently swept home.

The one-way traffic continued. Diver shot wide after being supplied by Henderson and the forward was then denied by Stevenson, following a flowing move involving Watson, Henderson and Campbell.

Stevenson was called into action again to make a smart save from Lewis Bell’s shot but he the keeper could do nothing to prevent McInroy adding a third in the closing stages.

Fastening on to a looping ball, the midfielder showed terrific technique to bring the ball down, bear down on goal and apply the finish, putting the gloss on an impressive second-half showing as the Bhoys returned to winning ways in some style.

CELTIC (4-2-3-1) Doohan, Duffy, Welsh, Deas, Church; Bell, McInroy; Watson, Henderson (Henderson 80), Mazis (Campbell 53); Aitchison (Diver 69)
