Jonny Hayes reveals his love of horse-racing in the Celtic View

By: Mark Henderson on 13 Mar, 2018 16:01

  • IF Jonny Hayes had a choice between watching the Champions League or the Cheltenham Festival, then the latter would win the contest every time. Although the winger has always loved playing football, in this week’s Celtic View, the winger reveals why horse-racing gives him the greatest thrill off the pitch and where his love for equine excellence stems from.

“People think I’m joking when I say it’s my favourite sport, but I just enjoy watching it,” said the 30-year-old in an exclusive interview.

“I have always loved playing football, although I have never really enjoyed watching it, but I have always enjoyed watching horse-racing and golf. I’m probably among the minority that feels you don’t have to have a bet to enjoy horse-racing."

Taking time out from his injury rehab, the Irishman also sat down with the Voice of the Champions to give his tips for the three remaining days of the Cheltenham Festival, which got underway today, including the principal race of the biggest event in jump racing – the Gold Cup.

To read the exclusive interview with Jonny Hayes and so much more, make sure you pick up a copy of this week’s Celtic View. On sale from Wednesday, March 14.
