    CELTIC… 1
    (Aitchison 88)

    PARTICK THISTLE… 0

CELTIC’S Development Squad returned to winning ways on Friday night with a hard-fought but well-deserved derby victory over Partick Thistle at Cappielow.

Jack Aitchison provided the only goal of the game, scoring the winner with just two minutes of the match remaining.

And there was also the welcome return of Patrick Roberts to action, with the winger playing just under an hour of the match.

The early stages of the game saw both sides trying to get a foothold, and it was Partick Thistle who came close to opening the scoring after nine minutes, but Ryan Mullen produced a superb fingertip save to deny the visitors.

Aitchison and Thomas Caffrey were linking up well in the forward positions, and Caffrey twice cme close around the half-hour mark to making the breakthrough.

And just three minutes from the break, Wallace Duffy was only denied by the crossbar after he thundered a shot goalwards inside the area.

In the second-half, Celtic started to step up the pressure, and Kerr McInroy was denied by the Thistle goalkeeper on 54 minutes. A few minutes later, Robbie Deas went close with a snap-shot.

The game was heading towards a goal-less draw when Aitchison grabbed the goal. Daniel Church was the provider, doing well down the left flank before delivering a cross to the near post where Aitchison was on hand to fire the ball into the net for the winner.

CELTIC: Mullen, Duffy, Church, Welsh, Deas (Capt.), Bell, McInroy, Roberts (Savoury 57), Henderson, Caffrey (Watson 50) Aitchison.
    Substitutes: Willison, Diver, Campbell, Potter.
