Westlife star set for Celtic Legends match

By: Newsroom Staff on 05 Aug, 2011 17:01

  • WESTLIFE star Nicky Byrne is swapping the pop stage for the football one when he fulfils a dream and plays at Celtic Park wearing his beloved green and white Hoops.

Nicky had enjoyed a promising football career when he was younger, and was a youth player with Leeds United before returning to play in the League of Ireland. He also represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-18 level.

For the past 13 years, he has enjoyed worldwide pop stardom with Irish band, Westlife, and throughout that time he’s always followed the fortunes of Celtic.

Now he’s jumped at the chance to play alongside some of his heroes, including Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton and fellow Irishman Neil Lennon in the Legends game next Tuesday, August 9, which will raise money for Oxfam’s East Africa Famine Appeal.

Last year Nicky and fellow Westlife member, Shane Filan popped up to the Lennoxtown Training Centre when they were in Glasgow for a sell-out show at the SECC.

Tickets for the Legends game between Celtic and Manchester United at Celtic Park on Tuesday, August 9 are on general sale priced £10 Adult and £5 Concession.
