    RAITH ROVERS…0

CELTIC booked their place in the next round of the Scottish FA Youth Cup with an impressive 5-0 victory over Raith Rovers at the Lennoxtown Training Centre today (Sunday).

Second-half goals from Ewan Henderson, Calvin Miller, Jack Aitchison, Regan Hendry and Ciaran Diver gave Tommy McIntyre’s side the victory and ensured their progress in the tournament, which had started with an 8-0 win over Alloa Athletic in the previous round.

Miller was a thorn in side of his opponents all afternoon and made clear his intentions within two minutes of kick off. The Hoops full-back stormed past three defenders as he dribbled his way into the box and let of a great shot only to be denied by a great save from the Raith goalkeeper.

He continued to torment the visitors throughout the first half as he made light work of Raith Rovers’ attempts to stop his crosses into the box. Brogue Watson was the recipient of Miller’s crosses on two occasions but the Celtic midfielder was denied by the keeper and headed over on his second attempt.

Henderson also came close to breaking the deadlock with two attempts on goal but the keeper saved and his second attempt was chipped over the bar under pressure.

Celtic started the second half on the front foot and almost opened the scoring within seconds of the restart. A Ewan Henderson corner was glanced goalward by Robbie Deas, but the opposition keeper make another great save.

Raith Rovers only managed to hold out for a further two minutes though. A free kick close to the goal-line was passed into the box by Henderson and Bell slipped the ball past the keeper from close-range.

The Hoops doubled their advantage within five minutes as Miller collected a long-range pass and fired the ball into the back of the net without breaking his stride.

A great finish from Jack Aitchison put Celtic three goals in front in the 61st minute. The Celtic forward picked up the ball from a corner, swivelled on the 18-yard line and fired a low shot beyond the keeper.

Substitute Ciaran Diver came close on 77 minutes after he was set up by Regan Hendry, but his shot went narrowly wide. However, the Hoops were not to be denied and Hendry made it 4-0 on 83 minutes.

The fourth goal was not the end to Raith Rovers’ misery, however, as Celtic closed off the game with a last-minute goal. Some wonderful play between Caffrey and Hendry resulted in the Hoops captain threading a great pass through to Diver who converted from close range to make it 5-0.

CELTIC: Doohan, Bell, Miller, Deas, Duffy, McInroy, Watson (Diver 71), Hill, Aitchison (Caffrey 71), Hendry (cpt), E. Henderson (Church 66).
    Subs: Mullen, Campbell, Potter, Welsh.
