Griffiths sets sights on 100 goals for Celtic

By: Tony Connelly on 18 Nov, 2017 17:18

  • LEIGH Griffiths was delighted to score another free-kick after grabbing the only goal of the game against Ross County, and he revealed that he’s aiming to reach the 100-goal mark for Celtic before New Year.

The Hoops striker came on for Callum McGregor just after the hour mark at Dingwall with the game still goal-less and he was instrumental in securing all three points for Celtic. Ross County limited Celtic’s chances in front on goal, despite the Hoops’ dominance, but they fell victim to a moment of magic from Griffiths with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Speaking after the match, Griffiths said: “It’s always a difficult place to come with the journey, the pitch wasn’t great and, in the first half, we had the sun in our eyes. We just keep chipping away. We go from the first minute to the 90th and it doesn’t matter when we score, as long as we do it and get three points.

“I’ve had a lot of practice with the free-kicks over the summer and nine times out of 10 I’ve either hit it over the bar or the keeper’s made a save. Thankfully that’s the one which got us the three points.

“People have seen what I can do with free-kicks and it’s been frustrating that I haven’t scored one since the England game. But I’ll take that and we’ll head down the road and start looking forward to Wednesday night.”

The Scotland striker’s goal takes his Celtic tally to 94 and he now has his sights set on reaching a century of goals before the end of the year.

“I’ll just keep chipping away and help the team get three points,” he said. “That’s the most important thing. If I can get to the 100-mark, then I’ll be absolutely buzzing. I’m hoping to do that before the end of the year and we have a lot of games between now and then.

“When it happens it’ll be special but right now my focus is on going back down the road, recovering and looking forward to Wednesday night.”
