Kenny Dalglish documentary to screen in Glasgow cinema

By: Paul Cuddihy on 17 Nov, 2017 13:10

  • CELTIC and Liverpool legend, Kenny Dalglish’s life is told on the big screen for the first time in a new film, Kenny, which is being screened tonight at the Glasgow Showcase cinema.

The film goes all the way back to Kenny’s early life in Glasgow and signing for Celtic in 1967, when Sean Fallon famously turned up at his house to persuade the talented young teenager to join the Hoops, despite his youthful allegiance to another city club.

Over the next 10 years, he went on to establish himself as a Celtic legend, making 320 appearances and scoring 167 goals.

Moving to Liverpool in 1977, King Kenny became an Anfield legend too, helping the club to great success both in England and in Europe before becoming manager.

And he was in charge of the club in April 1989 when the terrible tragedy of Hillsborough saw 96 Liverpool fans lose their lives.

The dignified way in which Kenny offered support and leadership to a club and a city at the time ensured his place in the affections of the Liverpool supporters as well as the wider football world.

The film features exclusive interviews with, and unprecedented access to, Kenny and his family, as well as legendary former players and managers such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Alan Hansen, Ian Rush, and John Barnes.

It is being released on DVD this Monday, but you can catch it on the big screen tonight at the Glasgow Showcase Cinema (7.30pm).
