Kieran Tierney: I play to thank the Celtic fans in every game

By: Mark Henderson on 08 Nov, 2017 16:38

  • KIERAN Tierney has thanked the Celtic supporters for their unwavering support for him since he broke into the team, and he has vowed to continue his complete commitment to the cause on the pitch for them over the next six years.

“The Celtic fans know what they mean to me,” he told this week’s Celtic View. “From the first day I came on at Dundee away, they were brilliant with me and they gave me time to settle in. In the next season when I really kicked on and played a few games, they were amazing with me.

“They have always supported me and even if I haven’t played as well, they have always given me a chance and backed me. Saying thanks to them is not enough. That’s why I play the best I can and hopefully reward them with good performances and goals and doing as much I can to help the team.”

The incredible atmosphere created by Celtic fans in last week’s UEFA Champions League clash with Bayern Munich came in for huge praise from the German club’s players, officials and fans last week – and that was no surprise to Tierney.

“Celtic is iconic as a club and everyone knows about the atmosphere the fans create and that’s credit to everyone at the club and the noise they create is unbelievable,” he said. “I have been lucky to play in it a few times on Champions League nights and hopefully there are more to come.

“It’s special to hear that from Bayern as they are big players and top professionals, but the Celtic fans know how good they are and what they can do.

“You could see it leading up to our goal on the night. It was no coincidence that the Celtic fans were very loud for 10 minutes before that. It drives you on and you want to do better for them. We were drawing for a couple of minutes and we would have liked to have hung on. I have watched the goal back and the noise you hear when Cal scores is phenomenal.”
