Four young Celts called up to Scotland national team

By: Tony Connelly on 10 Oct, 2017 15:54

  • FOUR Celtic Academy players have been called up to the Scotland under-16 squad for the Victory Shield tournament in Northern Ireland later this month.

Karamoko Dembele is among four Hoops players included in the team for the international competition which will take place between October 23-27 in Belfast.

The 14-year-old winger made his debut for Tommy McIntyre’s under-20 squad last year in a 3-1 victory over Hearts and has continued to progress in the Celtic Academy system. He has already featured for Scotland having played in last year’s Victory Shield tournament.

Dembele will be joined by three of his Celtic team-mates- forward Michael Sparkes, midfielder Dylan Forrest and defender Liam Morrison- when Scotland travel to Northern Ireland on Saturday October 21.

The Scotland under-16 team, managed by head coach James Grady, will play three games in the tournament starting with Wales on Monday (October 23) before playing Northern Ireland on Wednesday (October 25) and finishing with a match against Republic of Ireland on Friday (October 27).
