    HEARTS … 0

    CELTIC … 2
    (Aitchison 40, E.Henderson 65)

CELTIC’S Development Squad continued their good start to the domestic season with a 2-0 victory over Hearts at Ochilview. Goals from Jack Aitchison and Ewan Henderson secured the points for Tommy McIntyre’s side who dominated the game from start to finish.

Henderson’s older brother, Liam, was in the starting line-up, and the midfielder showed his class and experience throughout the 90 minutes, which also involved him setting up Ewan for Celtic’s second goal of the night.

The young Celts took the game to their opponents from the first whistle, and Liam Henderson set up Mikey Johnston for the first chance of the night after just five minutes, but the winger’s shot went over the bar.

Henderson went close after 20 minutes, forcing the Hearts goalkeeper into a good save, and from the resultant corner, Jack Aitchison headed just over.

There were further chances for Joe Thomson and Aitchison again before the latter finally got the goal that Celtic’s dominance deserved with five minutes of the first-half remaining.

Johnston showed great vision to pick out Aitchison with a deft chip over the top of the Hearts defence, and the young Celtic striker produced a superb left-footed finish to put the Hoops 1-0 up.

The story of the second-half was a repeat of the first 45 minutes, with Celtic taking the game to their opponents. And they had a penalty claim after just five minutes when Johnston went down inside the box, but the appeals were waved away.

Celtic keeper Conor Hazard, who had been a virtual spectator in the game, was called upon to produce a superb save after 55 minutes to deny Hearts an equaliser they barely deserved. And 10 minutes later, the Hoops doubled their lead with a goal that might have been from the Henderson back garden, never mind the training ground at Lennoxtown.

Liam was the provider, lofting the ball over the Hearts defence for Ewan, who rifled home a brilliant right-foot finish to make it 2-0.

There was to be no further scoring in the game on a night when the young Celts produced an impressive performance and well-deserved victory.

CELTIC: Hazard, Bell, Deas, McCart, Hill, Thomson, Hendry(McInroy 80), Savoury (E.Henderson 57), L. Henderson, Johnston, Aitchison (Watson 67).
    Subs: Willison, Duffy, Caffrey, Welsh
