Manager: James Forrest has been consistently outstanding for us

By: Tony Connelly on 19 Sep, 2017 09:01

  • BRENDAN Rodgers singled out James Forrest for high praise following the winger’s goalscoring exploits against Ross County at the weekend, and said the Scotland international was deserving of more credit for his consistent contributions to the team.

Forrest scored two goals on Saturday as the Hoops extended their domestic unbeaten run to 55 games with an impressive 4-0 win over Ross County, and the Celtic manager spoke highly of the 26-year-old who has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season.

“James is a joy to work with,” said Brendan Rodgers. “He’s been absolutely brilliant for us, stood in for us over the course of the summer in the Champions League campaign where he played and got some really important goals. He’s been outstanding for me.

“His two goals at the weekend were very good goals. For the first one, he anticipates it well and with his other goal he’s come inside, there’s hardly any space at all, and he just bends it into the bottom corner.

“He’s a player I love working with. He’s got a lot of talent and because he comes in and plays the games without any fuss I don’t think he always get the credit that he deserves. He’s a great player for our squad and when he plays he contributes.”

Brendan Rodgers added that the Scotland winger has been a consistently valuable player for the squad since he took over as manager last summer.

“He was one of the most impressive players when I first came in," he said, "and in my first pre-season here he was arguably my best player. I’ve always known him to be absolutely outstanding.

“I think the key for James has been to have an individual training programme that allows him to train how you want him to play and he’s been able to take that consistency on the training field into the games. His job is very simple. When he has the ball he has to create and score goals and he’s done that consistently.”
