Griffiths leads the Celtic attack as Ralston starts at the back

By: Tony Connelly on 12 Sep, 2017 18:30

  • CELTIC will kick off their UEFA Champions League Group B campaign against Paris Saint-Germain at Paradise tonight as Anthony Ralston makes his first European start in the group stages for the Bhoys with Leigh Griffiths leading the attack.

Ralston’s inclusion in the starting XI will see him defend the Celtic backline at right-back alongside Mikael Lustig, Jozo Simunovic and Kieran Tierney.

The 18-year-old has impressed under Brendan Rodgers this season and scored his debut goal for the Hoops in the 5-0 win over Kilmarnock in the League Cup last month. He has started in Celtic’s last two league games and came off the bench in Astana where he played over 30 minutes in the second-leg play-off which saw Celtic secure their place in the group stages.

Striker Leigh Griffiths has recovered from injury and will lead the line for Celtic. The 27-year-old limped out of Scotland's 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Malta last Monday and, as a precaution, was rested for Celtic’s 4-1 win over Hamilton Accies on Friday night.

Patrick Roberts is also in the starting XI as the young winger makes his second start for the Hoops since making his return at the end of the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old played just under 70 minutes on Friday night at New Douglas Park where he showcased his trademark trickery and creativity in a performance which looked as if he had never been away from the squad.

Brendan Rodgers has made a total of three changes to the side which started the Premiership tie four days ago as new Bhoy Odsonne Edouard is on the bench for the game against his former team-mates. The 19-year-old Frenchman made his debut in Friday’s game and illustrated his skill and strength to score Celtic’s fourth goal on the night.

Kick-off at Celtic Park is 7:45pm. Head to @celticfc for all the pre-game build-up and live match updates.

CELTIC (4-2-3-1): Gordon; Ralston, Lustig, Simunovic, Tierney; Brown, Ntcham; Armstrong, Roberts, Sinclair; Griffiths
Subs: De Vries, Bitton, Rogic, Edouard, Ajer, McGregor, Forrest.
