Rodgers: Eyes of the world are on Celtic Park, but we're prepared

By: Tony Connelly on 12 Sep, 2017 10:59

  • BRENDAN Rodgers says the eyes of the world will be on Paradise tonight (Tuesday) when Celtic face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League, but insisted his players are fully prepared to face the challenge that awaits them.

As the Hoops prepare to face one of the most expensive teams ever assembled, the world’s media will turn its attention Glasgow for another historic European night at Celtic Park. The occasion is nothing new to the Bhoys though, and with a further 12 months to instil his philosophy of football on the team, Brendan Rodgers believes his side will not be fazed by the occasion.

“The eyes of the world will be on this game and we’re in a really good condition to go into the tournament this time,” said the manager.

“The players are very clear on how to handle these kinds of pressure games. This is a game to go and enjoy, make no bones about it, this is a team who are superior to us, with the quality of their players and the quality of where they’re at, that’s why they’ve been brought into that club.

“But for us, we take an attitude into the game, a real positive attitude knowing we have the ability to play in this type of game. We have the speed that we maybe lacked at moments in the early stages of the Champions League last season. Now we have that strength and we have the power."

The Irishman also stated that despite the obvious strength and quality of Parisian club, Celtic would look to play an intelligent game and find a way past Neymar and his team-mates.

He added: “Even with the best teams in the world, there’s always areas that you can look to exploit. You always have to look to find ways and for us we look to go into the game with that mentality.

"It’s going to be a big challenge for us, but it’s a challenge we’re willing to embrace and with a full stadium here it should be a magnificent evening.”
