  • Celtic starting XI for top-of-the-table clash against St Johnstone

Celtic starting XI for top-of-the-table clash against St Johnstone

By: Tony Connelly on 26 Aug, 2017 14:00

  • BRENDAN Rodgers has made two changes to the side which secured Celtic’s place in the UEFA Champions League group stages in midweek for today’s top-of-the-table clash with St Johnstone.

Anthony Ralston will start at right-back as Mikael Lustig replaces Kristoffer Ajer in the centre of defence, while Tom Rogic returns to the starting line-up in place of Callum McGregor.

The Australian midfielder proved instrumental in Celtic’s 2-0 win at Rugby Park last weekend where his impressive skills set up James Forrest and McGregor to score against Kilmarnock.

Ralston’s place in today’s starting XI marks the 18-year-old’s second consecutive start in the league and his third in the senior side following his appearance against Kilmarnock in the League Cup where he netted his first senior goal for the club.

The Hoops will be looking to extend their unbeaten domestic run to 53 games today and will face an in-form St Johnstone team who also have three wins from three in the league and sit second in the SPFL Premiership ahead of Aberdeen. Tommy Wright will look to on-loan Rangers striker, Michael O'Halloran, to continue his strong start to the new campaign which has saw him net four goals for the Perth side in the league so far.

Kick-off at Celtic Park is 3pm. Head to @celticfc for all the pre-game build-up and live match updates.

CELTIC (4-2-3-1) Gordon; Ralston, Lustig, Bitton, Tierney; Brown, Ntcham; Forrest, Rogic, Sinclair; Griffiths.
Subs: De Vries, Ajer, Simunovic, Armstrong, Hayes, Benyu, McGregor
