New Bhoy looking forward to European nights at Paradise

By: Paul Cuddihy on 19 Jun, 2017 15:01

  • CELTIC’S UEFA Champions League campaign kicks off in the middle of July with a second round qualifying tie against either Linfield or La Fiorita. And whether it’s Ireland or San Marino the Hoops head to, the aim is to ensure progression to the next stage of the competition and a step closer to the group stages of the competition.

Brendan Rodgers steered Celtic to the group stages last season for the first time in three years, and the target is to repeat that achievement.

For new Bhoy, Jonny Hayes, the prospect of experiencing those special European nights at Celtic Park was a factor in his decision to join the club.

And having heard the likes of Lionel Messi extol the virtues of the Paradise atmosphere, he knows it will be something special to savour.

“It’s going to be tough to get into this Celtic team,” the Irishman said. “They don’t really need to improve much to go and do well again next season but I’m looking forward to it.

“To know that the manager wants you is enough for me, and whatever way he sees me fitting in and whatever way he wants to use me, that’s enough for me.

“I’ve watched on TV the Champions League games here and it’s hard to get away from people talking about the high regard it’s held in – when you hear the likes of Lionel Messi talking about the atmosphere at Celtic Park being the best they’ve ever played in, that’s enough for me. If that’s what they think of it, then it’s not going to get much better.”
