  • Mass for the Lions at St Mary’s Church on Saturday May 20

Mass for the Lions at St Mary’s Church on Saturday May 20

By: Newsroom Staff on 17 May, 2017 08:06

  • AS part of the series of special events taking place to mark the 50th anniversary of Celtic’s European Cup triumph in Lisbon back in 1967, a Mass will be celebrated by the Archbishop of Glasgow at 11am on Saturday, May 20 in St Mary’s Church, Calton – the parish out of which Celtic were founded back in 1887.

This initiative was proposed by the Church, and Archbishop Philip Tartaglia will be the principal celebrant, assisted by Father Tom White, parish priest at St Mary’s.

The Mass will not only mark the Lisbon Lions’ footballing achievement but also reinforce Celtic’s values as a club open to all, which have been an integral part of the club’s character since its inception. The Reverend Ian Miller will represent the Moderator of the Church of Scotland and representatives from other faiths will also be in attendance.

Some of the Lions will be at the Mass, along with other invited guests, and supporters are invited to attend what will be another special Celtic occasion.
