  • Forrest returns as Celts target 2016 domestic dominance

Forrest returns as Celts target 2016 domestic dominance

By: Martin Dalziel on 28 Dec, 2016 18:45

  • JAMES Forrest returns to the starting XI for Celtic tonight as the Bhoys look to finish 2016 unbeaten at home in domestic competition.

The Hoops winger has missed most of the month’s action after sustaining a hamstring injury against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League but made his comeback as a second-half substitute in the 3-1 win over Hamilton Accies at the weekend.

Forrest has now recovered completely to reclaim his starting place in the first-team tonight where Celtic could finish the calendar year unbeaten at Paradise in all domestic competitions.

That run stretches back to January 2 this year when the Hoops kickedoff 2016 with a 1-0 win over Partick Thistle before going on to claim their fifth consecutive SPFL Premiership title by the end of the season.

Under Brendan Rodgers, that excellent run at home has continued, with Celtic currently undefeated across all Scottish competitions, home and away this season, extending the home record to 21 games with 19 wins and two draws, 65 goals scored and only 10 conceded.

The Celtic manager will be keen to protect that legacy with another positive result this evening and he has made a further two changes to his team following the victory over Hamilton by brining Jozo Simunovic and Ryan Christie back into the side at the expense of Christian Gamboa and the suspended Callum McGregor.

Kick-off at Paradise is at 7.45pm and there will be pre-match build-up and live updates via the official Celtic Twitter account @Celticfc

CELTIC: Gordon; Lustig, Simunovic, Sviatchenko, Izaguirre; Brown; Christie, Armstrong; Forrest, Griffiths, Sinclair.
Subs: De Vries, Toure, Bitton, Dembele, Gamboa, Roberts, Henderson
