THERE was another double for Emilio Izaguirre at the annual Celtic Player of the Year awards on Sunday night.
The Honduran left-back picked up the Player of the Year Award, sponsored by Lomond Audi Group, and the Players’ Player of the Year Award, sponsored by Mansion House, at the event, held in the Thistle Hotel, Glasgow.
Izaguirre has been in outstanding form throughout his first season at Celtic, and has already picked up the PFA Scotland Player of the Year Award and the Clydesdale Bank Player of the Year Award.
In the Young Player of the Year category, sponsored by KFC, James Forrest topped the poll.
And the Top Goalscorer of the Year Award, sponsored by Ladbrokes, was shared by Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes, both of whom have scored 19 goals so far this season.
The Goal of the Season Award, sponsored by Tennent’s, saw Scott Brown’s strike against Rangers at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup a very popular winner.
There were also two Special Recognition Awards, both of which were very poignant and moving.
The first one, sponsored by Celtic Charity Fund, was in memory of Paddy Sweeney of the Association of Donegal Celtic Supporters’ Clubs, who sadly passed away last year.
And the second award, sponsored by Scottish Leader, was in memory of Peter Rafferty of the Affiliation of Registered Celtic Supporters’ Clubs, who also sadly passed away last year.
