U17 Head Coach John McLaughlan proud of young Celts

  • CELTIC’S Under-17s can be proud of themselves and are a credit to the club, according to Academy coach John McLaughlan, following last night’s emphatic Glasgow Cup triumph.

The Bhoys thumped Rangers 4-0 at Ibrox in the showpiece event to retain the trophy for the third year in a row and the head coach of the U17s said the result should give the whole club a lift.

“The scoreline justified the effort and I thought the boys carried out the game-plan to the letter of the law,” he said.

“We created enough chances and the scoreline was about right for the first-half performance.

“In previous derbies this season, I’ve seen them a little bit uptight and they didn’t pass the ball well enough, but last night they had a good focus and there was a real determination to go and win to the cup.

“To go to Ibrox and win 4-0 suggests that there’s good talent in that squad and if we can progress them into the Development Squad then we’re doing the right things with them.

“To see it coming together like that, I think everyone at the club takes a lift. It has given everyone a lift and I hope it augers well for the future.”
