Celtic’s midfield maestro in the 1980s and 1990s, Paul McStay’s love for his only club never waned during his illustrious career in the Hoops.
Coming from a famous Celtic family, Paul broke into Billy McNeill’s championship side in 1982 and remained a fixture for almost 15 years.
The complete midfielder, Paul was always a class apart and inspired Celtic to the double in 1988, when he was named Scotland’s Player of the Year for his world-class performances.
Despite interest from Italy and England, he remained a Celt for life and became captain in the early 1990s.
In 1995, he guided Celtic to the Scottish Cup – the club’s first trophy for six years.
He retired through injury soon after but will always be remembered as one of the best.
Paul McStay, with almost 700 appearances for the club, is a true Celtic legend.
